Preschool Days are Here: Happy 4th Birthday, Text4baby

February 5th, 2014

Natasha tells her Text4baby story:

I’m a proud Text4baby mom of a 3-year-old boy named Isaiah. I first learned that I was pregnant with Isaiah during a visit to my doctor in early 2010. It was a surprise and I didn’t have many of the resources I needed to ensure a healthy pregnancy. One of my first stops for help was the local WIC office. My care provider at the WIC clinic introduced me to Text4baby, and I instantly signed up to receive the free text messages that would link me – and other pregnant women and new moms – to tips and resources right at our fingertips!

All of the new information I received from Text4baby made me feel empowered and prepared throughout my pregnancy. One of the best things I learned was how important it is to speak with my doctors about which medications are safe during pregnancy. Receiving this particular text message encouraged me to talk to my doctor about the possible effects my allergy and migraine medications could have on my baby. With this knowledge, Text4baby gave me the confidence I needed to fully embrace motherhood.

Signing up was easy: I just texted BABY to 511411, and  started receiving three free text messages a week with useful health and safety information to keep me and my baby healthy. The service is even available in Spanish, just text BEBE to 511411. It’s really that easy!

After Isaiah was born, I began working at the Michigan Primary Care Association, enrolling pregnant women and new moms into Medicaid and CHIP. Because Text4baby was a life-saver during my pregnancy and after, I used this opportunity to share my first-hand experience with the service. Many of the moms I signed up have told me how the messages are “right-on-time,” giving you what you need to know exactly when you need it. They especially love the appointment reminder feature that helps them keep track of the important doctor visits for them and their babies.

Text4baby is celebrating its 4th birthday and Isaiah just turned three this past November- it’s amazing how quickly these past few years have passed. I am excited to see how both he and the service continue to grow! Isaiah is starting preschool this fall and I’m amazed every day at how much we have both grown as we count, sing and play together.

As Text4baby celebrates its 4th birthday this February, I am proudly reminded that Isaiah was one of the very first Text4baby babies. Text4baby was an invaluable resource to me, and it continues to empower expecting and new mothers, and their families, with critical health safety information right on their cell phones. Happy Birthday Text4baby, from one proud mama!
